Apparitions Fall Under A Category In Catholicism
Known as "Private Revelations."
About Private Revelations
Private Revelations are an aid to the spiritual life, which help the faithful to live out the Gospel message more completely.
Private revelations do not add to Divine Revelation (the Bible), which ended with the preaching of the Apostles.
Catholics are obliged to believe in Divine Revelation, but are not obliged to believe in apparitions, even those with Church approval such as Fatima or Lourdes.
Conversely, the faithful have the freedom to believe in apparitions not approved by the Church, so long as the apparitions do not contain material contrary to the teachings of the Church.
The information on this web site contains excerpts from Private Revelations 12:1, The Prophecies of Our Lady of Emmitsburg.
