Could A Survey Boost Plummeting Mass Attendance at St. Joseph's Church, Emmitsburg, MD? The Answer Could Begin With You
In an effort to increase Mass attendance, at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Emmitsburg, MD, the pastor and parish council have designed and disseminated a survey for present and fallen away parishioners. The church, once overflowing with people when the Thursday Night Marian Prayer Group meetings were occurring, during which the apparitions of Our Lady of Emmitsburg took place, has experienced an on-going decline in attendance. Over the past several years, since the Prayer Group's suspension, the number of registered parishioners actively participating in the life of the parish has dwindled to an approximate low of only 33% of its active members, according to some current parishioners. The empty pews have prompted action in the form of a survey, which was distributed to parishioners last weekend. The two page document endeavors to uncover problems, which could subsequently be resolved, resulting in bringing people back to St. Joseph's Church. It also specifically requests anonymity; therefore, participants are asked toNOT provide their names. In order to assist in this effort, we would invite any and all concerned and past parishioners; as well as, previous pilgrims, to prayerfully submit positive comments regarding improvements at St. Joseph's. Specifically, with respect to efforts to increase Mass attendance, we respectfully request, if you concur, a comment be made such as;
"Reinstate a prayer group like the Thursday Night Marian Prayer Group, canceled in September, 2000."
We strongly believe this will not only increase Mass attendance, but we are also confident that Heaven and our Blessed Mother support this, helping St. Joseph's to again flourish. Please submit your honest, helpful, and anonymous comments and suggestions, postmarked or emailed, by no later than April 5, 2010.
Blessings, Alan and Nikki Todd Publishers
